Mrs. Moon - Band & General Music
Leslie Ann Minor Moon is the Director of Bands at Harlem Middle School! She is looking forward to starting year 20 as a music educator in Georgia. There are currently almost 200 students in band and growing! The band students perform at many concerts on campus and in the community. Sixth grade band students typically have 2-3 concerts a year. Seventh and Eighth grade band students begin performing at football games as a Pep Band to support the football team and cheerleaders. There is also a Costume Concert, Veterans Day Assembly Concert, Winter/Spring Concerts, Large Group Performance Evaluation and fun field trips! Under Mrs. Moon's direction, students have participated in District Honor Band, 6th Grade Honor Band and Solo and Ensemble. The Harlem Middle School bands consistently recieve Superior Ratings at LGPE.
Before teaching at HMS, Mrs. Moon was the Director of Bands at Wrens Middle School in Wrens, Ga. for six years. Almost half of the school participated in band. The WMS bands only received Superior ratings at Large Group Performance Evaluation. They also performed numerous times throughout the year at school and in the community. In 2012, they performed at the Southern Star Music Festival at Six Flags and in May of 2013 and 2014 they performed the National Anthem at the Augusta GreenJackets baseball game. Band students at Wrens Middle School participated in the University of Georgia Middle School Band Festival, District Ten Honor Band, 6th Grade Honor Band, All-State Band, Solo and Ensemble Band Festival at AU and Pep Band. Mrs. Moon was also Teacher of the Year for the 2014-2015 school year for Wrens Middle School!
Mrs. Moon's first teaching position was as an itinerant band director in Fayette County, Georgia for five years teaching 5th grade band at four elementary schools and assisting at Flat Rock Middle School. Before leaving Fayette County after her sixth year, Mrs. Moon was Director of Bands at Flat Rock Middle School in 2010. During her time as Director of Bands at Flat Rock, the band program consisted of over 200 students. There were selected students who participated in District 6 Honor Band, Clayton State University Honor Band, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra/GMEA Instrumental Band Project, All-State Band, UGA Mid Fest, Large Group Performance Evaluation, Solo & Ensemble, and Pep Band. The Symphonic Band received a Superior Rating at the 2011 Carowinds Music Festival and the bands (6-8) consistently received Superior ratings at LGPE as well. Mrs. Moon also assisted and conducted with the Flat Rock Middle School Symphonic Band with their performances at the Georgia Music Educators Association Conference in Savannah, GA (2007) and the University of Georgia Middle School Festival (2009) in Athens, GA. During her tenure in Fayette County, Mrs. Moon assisted with the Fayette County Marching Tigers and their performance at the 2007 Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California.
Mrs. Moon received her Bachelor of Music Education degree from Columbus State University (2003) and her Master of Music degree in Clarinet Performance from Georgia State University (2005). Her Educational Specialist degree (2009) is from Nova Southeastern University. Mrs. Moon is married to Joey Moon who is also a 20 year educator and the Director of the Washington Wilkes Alternative School. Mrs. Moon and her husband have three sons, Maddox (9), Memphis (9) and Lincoln (6). The Moons reside in Thomson, Ga.
